I stumbled across yet another list of inspirational work….this one comprised of video game artwork. I just know SOME of my students are into gaming like I am maybe?

Most of them are really good. From what I can tell, with the exception of a couple of them, it looks to me like none of these are done with CGI…. so they’re most likely great examples of Photoshop and Illustration work. Or possibly some mixed-media?

This sketch work/scribble caught my attention the other day. At first glance it truly looks like just a bunch of random doodling (which is cool enough it its own right) but once you see the process, there was an amazing amount of detail, time, and attention put into this thing. And all done with Photoshop none-the-less. (OwaikeO via Abduzeedo)

Every week I get in front of a small group of business professionals and I try to clarify what Graphic Design is and what it isn’t. I stumbled across this nice selection of 20 Witty & Creative Posters about Graphic Design. Some of them do a pretty good job of expressing the point. (via Best Design Options)

Here’s an amazing fingerpainting demo done completely with an Apple iPad by artist David Kassan. That just blows my mind because doing live portrait isn’t my strong suit, much less doing it all electronically like this. (via Gizmodo)

I have to ask my brother about this. He’s living on Melbourne these days and I wonder if he’s gone to visit this installation yet? Apparently this animated sun can be manipulated in some way by anyone carrying an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.  AAACK! Again nothing cool like this ever gets done in Hawaii!  (via Gizmodo)

My sister-in-law has a great talent in creating this knitted stuffed toys. Apparently this is an art called Amigurumi. I knew there was this growing culture in creating these things but I didn’t know they had an actual term for it all this time.

I really dig that Katamari figure up at top…I’ll have to sweet talk her into making one for her favorite brother-in-law. I think you can check out the rest of her work over at her Facebook page, Forever Yum

I’ve always been somewhat of a stationery geek — when I was a kid I always liked colored pens, mechanical pencils, crayons, etc. Nothing freak-show or anything, I just liked collecting stationery and I used them judiciously to draw all the time back in the day before I discovered video games.

Anyway, where I’m going with this, is that I find it fascinating whenever I see artists who could use simple things like wax crayons or colored pencils to do amazing works of art. I somehow find that far superior in skill then what I could do with a digital camera along with Photoshop.

Take this work by Julia Randall for instance. That’s all done with colored pencil? That’s pretty amazing. Imagine the mouth cramp the model had sitting there all day with a spit bubble (via Today and Tomorrow)

When I was up in Hong Kong a couple weeks back I couldn’t help but encounter tons of kiosk stores that sold cell phones and accessories. My wife suggested I get a new iPhone case up there because it was “cheap”. We looked around and there wasn’t anything I spotted there that was any good.

But what really held me from getting a case up there was that I was waiting to come back home and order a GeleSkin case featuring some awesome artwork from tons of artists, including Frank Miller (NSFW) for you “300″ freaks. My only problem now is deciding which one I want to get….this is a fun way to get introduced to some new artists.

You know how I always say that you can find design just about anywhere? Well, this artist Anders Clausen took it a step further and made a whole exhibition based off of the design he found right on his own desktop. I kinda like it, I need to make one of these for my own room!  (spotted via Today and Tomorrow)

Stumbled across another pretty good design-focused website today called Abduzeedo. Here you can find links for inspirational material, neat Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials and even wallpaper for your computer desktop.

Quick glance at some of their tutorial collections I was pretty impressed and inspired. I’ve been a bit bored lately by some of the tutorials I’ve been seeing on some of my magazine subscriptions…it’s like you see the end result and think, “why would I ever want to do that?”
