Here’s an amazing fingerpainting demo done completely with an Apple iPad by artist David Kassan. That just blows my mind because doing live portrait isn’t my strong suit, much less doing it all electronically like this. (via Gizmodo)

That’s the crazy iPhone 4 line wrapping around the Ala Moana Center this morning at 6am. Am I in that crazy line? No fucking way. That’s insane if you ask me….I got a handful of friend’s out there standing in line and I’m getting the play-by-play action via Facebook.
To each his/her own I’d say…. for me, there’s no way I want to wait for hours out in a line just so I can part with $200+. Granted my iPhone 3GS is the easily best phone I’ve ever owned, but I’m not that much of a hardcore fanatic.
Looking at all of this Apple hype each time a new device comes up, I still can’t help but admire their marketing techniques.
I’ll wait for the 4GS that’ll be out in 3 months.
I have to ask my brother about this. He’s living on Melbourne these days and I wonder if he’s gone to visit this installation yet? Apparently this animated sun can be manipulated in some way by anyone carrying an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. AAACK! Again nothing cool like this ever gets done in Hawaii! (via Gizmodo)
On the subject about taxes, Gizmodo made mention this morning about this great poster created by an artist named Jess Bachman. It shows a visual record of where all your tax dollars are going with the biggest chunks represented by bigger circles.
When I think of taxes I’m reminded of that one scene from Godfather 2 where the Don in the white suit goes around to each shop collecting protection money. This way the Gov’t takes my money the same way but they don’t look half as cool doing it. (Death and Taxes 2010 via Gizmodo)
I’m off on my vacation in 2 days. Of COURSE I’m counting! I can’t wait….although I must say I feel a little nervous anxiety crop up in the pit of my stomach over the 19 hour plane ride over with my little boy Kingston. He’s now reached the age where he’s starting to understand he can own things if he holds on tight enough, AND he’s walking around like a champ now. A deadly combination on a plane ride I’m sure.
My stomach’s been a little queasy these past couple nights & I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night wide awake. This kind of happens for me before big trips but this time it feels a bit stronger than the past.
That’s ok, chill Raph……OMMMMM
I’ll see what I can do updating my blog on the road. This will be a good experiment to see how both my iPhone & the WordPress app performs overseas.
For those of you who might actually miss me *crickets*, there have been some recent news of the new features coming up in the latest CS5 apps. That’s right folks, it’s been about a year and a half since CS4 came out, so I guess that puts us right on cue for another spending binge upgrade.
Here are some features they’re working on:
I think I have some studying to do this Summer as I prepare to teach Photoshop and Illustrator again this Fall. I may be somewhat of a Photoshop geek but the new control points for Warping and “puppeteering” are pretty nifty.
More features? I hope so…

I guess for anyone that cares, they’ve already weighed in on the Apple iPad that was announced by Steve Jobs last week.
Here’s my take…I’ll wait and see.
I like this guy’s site. Damjan Stankovic is a designer in Serbia who apparently thinks up new concepts for everyday objects. I like a couple of his ideas like the tea infuser or the traffic light concept above. He’s got some good photoshop/illustrator prototypes up on his site as well. Having done some prototyping for a couple clients in the past I know how hard it is to do some of that illustration work.
Here’s a pano shot I took off of one of my friend’s rooftop balcony a couple weeks ago. That’s starting towards the backside of Downtown Honolulu just as the sun was going down behind the buildings. I took nightshots of this scene as well but disappointingly I had too much camera shake with my long exposure. Either my hand was all jittery because of the excitement of the shot, or that rooftop had some vibrations I couldn’t detect at the time.
Anyway….Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Good Festivus for the restuvus!
Here’s a neat LCD (?) clock that features a looping video of a man drawing the hands of the clock in each passing minute. Pointless? Yes, but nonetheless fun to watch. If it didn’t actually have a creepy man behind it, I wouldn’t mind having one…say…with a Italian supermodel on it? It’ll be like she’s perpetually reminding me to “keep waiting because it’ll never happen”

So say you wanted a beautiful wedding shot with a perfect sunset, some sailboats sailing past and some lovely birds flying overhead…what do you do? Hire a pro photographer and wait for it to never happen?
Well, according to a group of Chinese developers, you can get this program called Photosketch. With this program, you can sketch out the way you want your image to appear, and then the program will scour the web for images to put together into your photo.
Here, while I’m checking out to see if all my WordPress settings and features are ok, here’s a quick design find to wet your appetite. Another installation similar to the one that was up in Montreal only this one is done using a digital projection.
This is cool too. Only problem being that this method probably limits the installation to the width of the projection and there will probably be light issues as well. (via Strukt)
