This coming Tuesday (Dec 30th), my band, “Miss Buddha” will be performing in the semi-final event for Star 101.9′s “Battle of the Bands” over at Pipeline Cafe. We’re up first 8pm – 8:30pm. Just 3 bands are up that night. I think there’s a $5 cover?
If you can make it to be part of our cheering section….we’d love ya!
Here’s the first video we’ve shot for our band Miss Buddha. It’s a bit of an experiment for the guys down at the media center down at KCC to see how ready they would be to do projects like these…so the lighting and video style was completely on the cuff. I like how it turned out though, a good raw feeling to it.
Halloween night (this Friday evening) my band Miss Buddha will be playing at the ArtAfterDark event at the Academy of Arts along with other bands like 86 List. Sounds like they have some kind of punk meets art type thing going on. I’m quite looking forward to this one since I’ve never actually performed at the Academy of Arts before…it’s right down the street from where I live. How CONVEEENIENT!
Come down and check us out of you have nowhere to go on Halloween. Costumes optional. (I can’t find one myself). We’re scheduled to be performing from 7:35pm – 8pm
On a side note, we have a video we made for the band that’s up on Facebook right now. I’ll post it here after we find a good place that would host this video. I think it’s too big right now for YouTube.
Here’s a concept I quickly whipped up for my band “Miss Buddha”.
I’m not sure. I was pretty excited about it at first. I liked the spirit of it…it’s very Sex Pistol-esk. I intentionally did it very fast and furious to try to get the energy of the music we played. And I noticed a lot of the iconic punk groups always have very chaotic, almost cheap looking logos. With the exception of the Dead Milkmen who have a dead cow. I wanted this cheesy 80′s vibe to it too so I did the halftone color thing to spruce it up. (Funny how the cheesy 80′s have kinda slipped back into fashion lately…I lived through that era and there’s nothing fashionable about the checkerboard shoes and the pink blazers, trust me)
And then I showed this to a couple band-members and they didn’t come across looking very enthused about it. “It’ll look good on a shirt”. I think I can loosely translate that to, “That looks like crap Raph, we’ll put it on a shirt so you don’t feel like you wasted your time”.
Bastards. (Funny how I make up their responses and complain about it huh?) I think that about explains why I don’t do work that’s too involved with my own personal life.
OH, we got a couple of shows up this Friday and Saturday if anybody wants to come check us out.
October 10 9:00pm – Sand Island Club w/ SheCanDevour October 11 8:30pm – Higher Ground Cafe & Music Club w/Make the Change & Pimpbot
This is my own first time playing at those venues so your guess is as good as mine how it’ll turn out. Come out and say hello!
I’m still trying to mash together a logo idea for my band, “Miss Buddha”. It’s a punk band so I know I want something a bit loose and freeform. But it’s just such a bizarre screwed up band-name I’m definitely stumped for inspiration right now. I know the band doesn’t want the too-obvious symbolism of a female buddha or anything like that – it’s just bad karma eh?
I’m almost tempted to just hand-scribble stuff on a page and that’ll be the end of it. Hey look at early Sex Pistols shit….and that’s retro cool again.
Stumbling around online I came across this quick article about how some of the other rock band logos came about. I wouldn’t say these are “TOP” rock band logos (Jamiroquai are you kidding me? The Metallica logo is more iconic then that) …but the names and history around them are still interesting to read about.
I think I’d almost have to be piss drunk to come up with something cool for this.
After having replaced our drummer, our band Miss Buddha will be slowly getting back out there to play again. Tomorrow night we have our first show in months out at King’s Pub. There’s a couple more gigs lined up after that as well. Come check us out

Owner of Honolulu Burger Co stuck to his word. Comped our whole meal even. That's a super nice gesture. Count me as a permanent fan.11:15:35 PM September 06, 2010from TweetDeck
