Bear with me, no I’m not going to just keep posting videos on my site from now on, but it’s just that lately I’ve seen more creative work in video form. Here’s this “Silent Monk” video (isn’t there a Chili Pepper’s song called that?) that I thought was very creative and appropriate for the Season. Hallelujah!

I’m going to tell you a little personal story today, one that I told to my business networking group today.

Some of you may know I play music on the side every now and again. I’ve been in a billion bands. Started playing bass right around my Junior year of high school (What is that, 5 years ago now?). Right around the time I was 20 or 21 I was in this punk band called Freshly Squeezed.

We were young and dumb. BUT we were pretty lucky. Lucky enough to stumble across the right connections that got us into a lot of concerts with VIP passes, and we managed to eek out a couple opportunities opening for some major acts of the time like Public Enemy & the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

OK it’s hard to turn on the TV or listen to the radio these past couple days and not have heard about Michael Jackson. As much as it has annoyed me a little how they’re making so much fuss about it now, when everyone’s been making MJ jokes for years, it’s certainly very interesting witnessing this kind of fervor.

When my wife sat down with me that afternoon we found out, she asked “Why are they making such a big deal about it?”  (She’s never really been a big fan of pop culture).  I admit I felt a little bit of defensiveness on behalf of these MJ fans out there who we saw crying on boob tube.

I told her, “Love him or hate him, he’s a HUGE part of music even despite all the crap that’s been surrounding him this past decade”  I think he deserves his time to be recognized…even if it comes after he’s gone.

So…since I posted a rememberance for Joey Ramone and James Brown when they past — Here’s to you Michael.  “Comon…till the pong pong, don’t stop till you get enough.  Cheehee Chamong”  (I could never figure out what he was saying in that song)

Music has always been very closely tied to my creativity.  Ever since I was very young, I always sketched, studied and sometimes slept with music playing. It didn’t really matter what genre…just something that suited my mood at the time.

It goes without saying that sometimes when I need inspiration, I’d play some music in my office to try to get my mind going (much to the chagrin of my wife who prefers total quiet when she’s studying).

Miss Buddha – Loaded Gun from Kevin Andreshak on Vimeo.

This coming Tuesday (Dec 30th), my band, “Miss Buddha” will be performing in the semi-final event for Star 101.9′s “Battle of the Bands” over at Pipeline Cafe.  We’re up first 8pm – 8:30pm.  Just 3 bands are up that night.  I think there’s a $5 cover?

If you can make it to be part of our cheering section….we’d love ya!

Here’s the first video we’ve shot for our band Miss Buddha. It’s a bit of an experiment for the guys down at the media center down at KCC to see how ready they would be to do projects like these…so the lighting and video style was completely on the cuff. I like how it turned out though, a good raw feeling to it.

Hope ya likes it!

Halloween night (this Friday evening) my band Miss Buddha will be playing at the ArtAfterDark event at the Academy of Arts along with other bands like 86 List.  Sounds like they have some kind of punk meets art type thing going on.  I’m quite looking forward to this one since I’ve never actually performed at the Academy of Arts before…it’s right down the street from where I live.  How CONVEEENIENT!

Come down and check us out of you have nowhere to go on Halloween. Costumes optional.  (I can’t find one myself).  We’re scheduled to be performing from 7:35pm – 8pm

On a side note, we have a video we made for the band that’s up on Facebook right now. I’ll post it here after we find a good place that would host this video. I think it’s too big right now for YouTube.

After having replaced our drummer, our band Miss Buddha will be slowly getting back out there to play again. Tomorrow night we have our first show in months out at King’s Pub.  There’s a couple more gigs lined up after that as well.  Come check us out
