I’m still here.  Surviving my week babysitting my 8-week old.  He’s still got all his toes and fingers so I didn’t do half bad.  I did have an awkward leaking poopy diaper incident once but let’s not get into the details of that shall we?

I found the site above recently while surfing around looking at artist portfolios.  Apparently this Cargo platform is a beta project allowing certain artists to display their work.  I like it.  Looks like they’re pretty selective right now who they’re putting into their system. It’s a clean user interface…which goes to show sometimes when it comes to putting a site together, less is best.

There’s quite a bit of beautiful work on display from various graphic artists around the world here.  Everything from typography, photography, branding, etc.  Check it out.  (via CargoCollective)

Well, I’m home alone with an 8 week old Kingston this week.  Mom returns to work.

I’m not going to say this doesn’t fill me with a little bit of fear & trepidation. I mean, as good as the little guy is…he’s still a little toddler with a one-sound vocabulary of “WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”  Interpretting what that sound is for is the big puzzle… a bit like trying to disarm a bomb but none of the wires are color coded so it’s a wild guess trying to pull each one until it shuts off.

Sometimes I just can’t figure it out…and after a good bit of “male-bonding” as my wife puts it, she’ll take the little guy away and does her mom-thing until the little guy shuts up.

But this week?  Errp.  None of that…I’m all alone.

SO. If you try reaching me this week, I’m not necessarily on vacation, I’m still here and trying to work.  But I’m not altogether as available as I’d like to be. Just leave a message for me and you’ll hear from me towards the end of the day or sometime whenever I can get the chance to return your call.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Shit happens. Literally, in my case.

Remember I discussed wanting to do high-dynamic range photography once?  Well, I still haven’t found the chance to try yet, but Gizmodo recently had a pretty good tutorial about how to do it.

I still haven’t gotten a new camera yet.  I think at this point I’m going for the record “Longest talk about getting a camera without ever actually getting one”.  I don’t know…my wife hinted maybe we could use some of our tax return to get a camera.  I’m like “ok where’s the recorder when I need it?”

I suppose every parent goes through this phase where they think their little kid is the most beautiful child in the world.  I’m just punch-drunk over this little guy.

I’m very aware that I could be just very bias.  Remember that old Sienfeld episode with the Hamptons?  “You gotta see the baby!”  And then the baby turns out to be super ugly?  Yeah, it could be the picture above is the most hiddeous thing you guys have ever seen.  But look at those little toes!!!

Everyone around the world is so pessimistic these days. I’m kinda sick of the talk on the news.  Sick of the depressing “advice” I get from family emails.  I’d rather surround myself with people who just refuse to accept there’s anything wrong and just go on with life.

Yeah, the economy is affecting a lot of people…if I were one of those who just got laid off I might be singing another tune.  But WTF, I’ve been without a formal “job” for 4 years now.  If I can survive on my own power, I bet there’s a ton of able-bodied smart people out there who can start their own businesses too.  I don’t want to jinx this, but business is pretty frakking good so far this year.  No sign of recession yet *knock on wood*

I thought this was a beautiful pop-up design demonstrated by a designer named Chanzhi Lee.  Apparently it was just thrown together using left-over paper from his other school projects.

I’m impressed.  I’ve never done a pop-up before.  I once visited the office of a fellow graphic design colleage in Downtown and I watched one of their designers work on a pop-up idea for a client.  She was struggling with it but I knew in the end it would probably look pretty neat.  Maybe I should try one someday, she was referencing a “how to” book on pop-up design, I should get one myself and play around with ideas.

I did a search online and found some cute little easy pop-up instructions.  Maybe THAT’s what I’ll do for X-mas this year!  This time I’ll remember to start in September rather then the week before Xmas.  (via: Lovely Package)

One of my best friends noticed I was a bit remiss in posting anything lately – he wondered if everything was ok.  Yeah, for the most part I am doing ok.

Yes, occasionally life kicks my butt.  There was some nights in the last week were I stayed up till the early hours of the morning either trying to finish project deadlines or feeding little Kingston.  I swear that newborns MUST have some kind of internal radar because they can be sleeping like little angels…but the MINUTE you decide you’re safe to close your eyes and go to bed.  WAAAAAAAAAAH, he starts hollering loud enough to wake the neighborhood.

OK I needed a bit of good humor today and I stumbled across this sleeping bag.

I dunno, I find it pretty funny. On one hand I kinda want one simply for the sight gag. I see my little boy wrapped up in all his warm body suits lately, I wouldn’t mind an adult sized body suit to keep warm these days.

On the other hand I can only see bad outcomes from this. (1) You’re going to get attacked by a bear defending his territory, (2) you’re going to get humped by a bear looking for a good time, or (3) you’re going to get shot by a bear hunter and get your head mounted on his wall. I don’t know which is worse…

Either way it has the taste of Darwinism at work for anyone that would hop into one of these in bear territory. (Eiko Ishizawa via Monster-Munch)
