About Me

About me…do you really care? No, I’m not trying to be rude or anything but these self-written bios can get rather labor intensive to go through.

Suffice to say, I’m just another person trying to eek my living doing something I love doing. Somehow, somewhere, there are those people who like my particular style of work and so I’ve been reasonably lucky at doing it full time.

I’m almost completely self-taught in it all. Wait, that’s not quite true – my childhood years were most likely spent playing my toys around my father’s art projects, everything from his ice carvings to his oil paintings. So you could say I learned art by osmosis. The rest of my life was most often spent drawing and doodling, often to impress my father, “Hey dad, look what I did!” and then he’d go “Not bad” in typical fatherly fashion.

Flash forward to the present (you really don’t want to hear EVERYTHING do you?), I’m doing something that some might consider a dream job. I got here quite by accident, but it’s turned out to be a welcome twist of fate. I’ve had successes and failures in my projects, I’ve won awards, & this Season I actually get to teach. Things are good.

My interests

I have several great pasttimes that help me get through my days:

Is it obvious that I love looking at designs?  It can be anything, I could be sitting at a fast food joint staring at the french fry containers. Or sitting there behind the car in front of me staring at how someone had designed those rear lights to reflect in just the right patterns. When I look at movie posters I’m often catching myself trying to figure out what font they used… it’s a bit sad but true.

The second thing I love is making loud noise in a live music band. I’ve been in a half dozen bands over the years but my latest project is with a local punk rock band called “Miss Buddha” where I play bass guitar.  Come check us out around town IF YOU DARE!  Mwwahaha.

My third interest (and this one surprises even me) has been photography. This interest only suddenly cropped up within the past couple of years. I never saw the point in photography growing up. I forget why I did it, but one day I picked up my first DSLR camera and started shooting.  Lo and behold I’d get lucky from time to time and pick up a nice shot and then I caught the bug.

One of my best friends once suggested that photography didn’t necessarily require much skill….he said even the most amatuer photographer can shoot a million shots and get lucky with one of them. In a way, I think he’s right. But that’s kind of what makes it fun…

Anywhoo….that’s me in a nutshell.
