Another birthday gone…not just any birthday but it was the big FOUR ZERO. As a student put it recently, “Oh I didn’t know you were so OLD!” \u00a0It’s one of those benchmark years where you have to look back and evaluate life a little bit.<\/p>\n
Well, as it turned out, today passed uneventfully. We took Kingston to the park and then spent the afternoon at a farewell party for a\u00a0colleague\u00a0over at the college. No real attention on me.<\/p>\n
It’s ok. I’m not one for fanfare. I think I might have been traumatized in my younger days when I got brought to Farrell’s for my birthday and got the shit scared out of me by their sirens?\u00a0I do like just hearing a few “happy birthdays” from people during the day and that’s about it.<\/p>\n

I did get some nice cash which I’ll probably sink into a camera lens I’ve been talking about for 3 years now. Other than that my wife got me that advanced iPad gift a few months back. So I didn’t walk away from the big bday with nothing to show for it. Papa’s happy.<\/p>\n
I got an uneaten birthday cake in the refrigerator. Well, half of a cake. Did my wife eat the rest you ask? Alas, no. We just bought a half cake because our skinny asses can’t eat that much sweets. Hopefully tonight I can sample some of that. I asked my wife to grab 40 candles for me but I think she thought I was kidding. I would have loved to have watched her try to light 40 candles.<\/p>\n
We DID pick up a new car this weekend as our lease was up on our last car. It’s a slightly splurgier (yes it’s my invented word) than we were planning to get. Partly because the disaster in Japan basically put every car we were interested in limited supply and most of models were unavailable.<\/p>\n
It’s a nice car. Hopefully I can take some pics of it sometime this week where I’ll make the big reveal. I DO instantly feel like an asshole sitting in it. Don’t ask me why\u2026I guess it’s just after 25 years of driving 2nd-hand cars I think anyone driving a better car either (1) is an asshole, or (2) can’t drive.<\/p>\n
