I find one of the most difficult things to handle in this business is my competitive spirit.<\/p>\n
I’ve lost clients before. Who hasn’t? They might have moved on for whatever reason (e.g., we didn’t get along as well as we had liked, they found someone less expensive, they didn’t like my design style, etc.)<\/p>\n
That’s fine…<\/p>\n
Well, not fine in a sense that I enjoy having client attrition in my business. But fine in a sense that I know some of this type of activity is normal in any business and I’ve learnt to try to take an objective viewpoint when I see a client leave and try to learn from it.<\/p>\n
The only time it REALLY bugs me is when I see an ex-client go to a designer that really sucks. It’s ok when you get substituted for someone that turns out a good product because then you can rationalize and say, “Yeah I got my ass kicked on this one”<\/p>\n
But when you end up seeing a website or printed material that is just HORRIBLE, then it just makes the ping that much worse because you really think, “What might I have done so wrong that made this option better?!”<\/p>\n
