I received this Gallien-Krueger MB200<\/a> bass amp in the mail yesterday. I haven’t been excited about playing music in a while…the feeling reminds me of the “old day”. (God, did I just say “old days”?) I guess I shouldn’t make pretend anymore – my best friend once said we are now “old guys with expensive stuff” as opposed to being “gigging musicians”.<\/p>\n

Why so excited about this amp? The sucker is 2LBS! The Hartke amp I’ve used for the past 10-15 years is close to 50lbs. While it didn’t bother me when I was younger…now hundreds of live shows and practice sessions later, I’m SO over carrying heavy stuff.<\/p>\n

So far, it’s sounding great. It has that really punchy typical GK sound. Good solid casing and nice, solid knobs. The text print on the casing is a little weak sauce, but that’s the designer in me talking. (they should have chosen a lighter typeface; the letters “G” ended printing unclearly.) Being so small, the knobs are cramped up a bit close, but I figure once it’s set, I wouldn’t be toying with them too much anyway.<\/p>\n

It has direct-out for those club or recording sessions. Aux in for late night practicing with the MP3 player. Oh an a pretty blue light that pulses red when the sound clips.<\/p>\n

Did I mention this was 2lbs! This is the best (only) music equipment buy I’ve made in the last 10 years. Happy happy joy joy.<\/p>\n

UPDATE:<\/strong> turns out the tiny cooling fan on the side of the unit wasn’t spinning. The product itself was pretty awesome. I’ve sent it back for a replacement. We’ll see if the next one is ok? I hope so because it’s otherwise pretty cool.<\/p>\n
