Do they have a serif version of this font?

Disgusting eh? But it definitely caught my eye this morning. Looks like these are different people for each one…some are hairy like a sasquatch and some of these folks look like they’re about to blow a blood vessel.

Somehow there is no “Y” and “Z”.  Maybe they ran out of volunteers. “H” and “T” look like the most painful. I’d be like, “go grab some more loose skin you summamabeetch…yowtch!”  Hmm, is “r” boobage or buttcrack?

UGH, now I need to go visit CuteOverload to calm my eyes. (via DesignYouTrust)

So today’s my last day of my self-imposed vacation.  Of course, this is a long Memorial Day weekend coming up but now with a little boy involved, these weekends aren’t so much for me anymore. So once again, another vacation has come and gone. I’m not so sure I managed to relax as much as I set out to do, but I did accomplish a few things I wanted to do. (a) cleaned up my office, (b) played a satisfying amount of Fallout 3 on Xbox, (c) managed to pick up a running again after a 6-month haitus, and (d) managed to find a morning to head out to an Arboretum to practice my photography.

What do you think?  I like the results. I certainly had an easier time getting these types of shots with my new camera than my old one. The higher ISO settings plus the availablilty of Live Mode in the 50D made it a much more powerful tool to grab the shots I wanted. Of course…all I had was just my one kit lens, so I had to make do as much as I could. I got eaten by mosquitoes despite over-dosing myself with repellant, and a couple times I fell on my ass walking the garden.

Luckily nobody was around to laugh at me except for a pair of Hawaiian birds.

I finally submitted my grades for this past semester of teaching Art 112 over at KCC. I handed down 5 “Fs” this quarter.  Some of them simply didn’t come to class past the 3rd week. I think maybe some of these students either forget to withdraw OR I understand they go to 2 or 3 classes just to make sure they keep their student financial aid working and then they don’t attend the class.

What I found more surprising this time was that there were a couple of students who had As and Bs going into this final project and then they simply stopped showing up.  No projects handed in at the final either. So they ended up with Fs.  WTF, I don’t get how you could put in so much effort to get a good grade 2/3rds into a semester only to just let it slide towards the last month of the semester. Sad.

I saw this somewhere the other day. I was very impressed. Remember how I keep saying I’m a little type-challenged?  Well, some artists are so good at it they can create an art piece like the one above using nothing BUT type!

Apparently this tribute (?) to Steve Jobs was done using only the font-types that have been historically used in Apple branding. (Dylan Roscover via MacGasm)

As I mentioned before, I’m not that IN to typography. But I DO find it interesting despite the fact I don’t often think enough about things like “ascenders”, “terminals”, “bowls”, etc.

So I wandered onto this really rich resource of font information on this site called “I Love Typography” which I thought was pretty nice. There’s a list of what they thought was some of the best new fonts of 2008. There’s a couple I really like…perhaps I’ll see if I can work them into a project someday.

Such a lazy ass huh?  This is like the cliff notes of my design field.

So I’ve been running into people here and there who have infants in and about as old as my boy Kingston – roughly 3 and a half months old.  This includes, one of my wife’s colleages who has a daughter who was just 14 hours older than Kingston.  What naturally occurs when you talk with these people is of course about the infants, “oh my 3 month old daughter has learned how to roll over already”, “my 2 month old grandson can sleep through the night”, “my 2 and a half month granddaughter has already figured out how to make baby noises!”  yadda yadda right?

Well, then I think about my boy having JUST learned some of those things a little behind some of the others. Yes I know I know, everyone learns at their own pace. But the comparison still creeps into my mind. We try flipping my boy on his stomach and he just flaps his limps helplessly and cries.  /sigh.  My smart little guy.

What is a parent to do?  I figured I better get my ass down to the bookstore and try getting some flash cards and books for him to look at pronto!  God I’m turning into a typical Chinese overachieving parent.

I sent out a newsletter yesterday to my mailing list.  It felt good… just a short piece letting people know about Kingston (if they didn’t already know), headsup about a small vacation I’m giving to myself for my birthday next week (May 15 – May 22).  Mainly just reminding people I’m still around.  You gotta do that every once in a while when you got your own business.  Funny how my marketing training kicks in every once in a while….I keep remembering my college professors teaching me about “top of mind awareness” and I guess that stuck.

You know, I’m really looking forward to vacation. It’ll be the first REAL time off I’m giving myself since my honeymoon 2 years ago.  Ever since getting married we just simply let life take over.  Sure I’ve had “rest time” when I had my surgery and my recent 3 week fight with the flu I didn’t do much work.  But is that really vacation?  So, I’m going to be a good boss to myself and tell myself to just chill for a bit.

It’s good timing too…all the craziness I’ve had over the last year is slowly being lifted off my shoulders.  I no longer have to be President of my networking chapter & I’ve finished teaching at least for the rest of this year.  I had no idea how much these responsibilities were weighing down on me.  But now I just feel like I can catch my breath a bit.

It’s funny how responsibility keeps trying to find me.  A couple nights ago I attended my condo’s owner association meeting just because I was curious.  Who knows what these old farts in my building end up approving with my maintenance fees huh?  Anyway, they were voting for new directors and a few of them were looking my way.  You know how in class you try to avoid the teacher’s eyes when he asks for volunteers?  Well, that meeting I think I memorized the strands of spider webs in the back corner of the room because I did NOT want to deal with any more responsibilities for a while.

Hopefully during my vacation time I can recover my health.  My mother tells me every health issue I’ve had lately was probably stress. I’m skeptical but I’ll give it a shot.  I’ll force myself to relaaax!

I haven’t had much opportunity to take the new cam out for some shots yet. Been basically staying at home either to work or because we’re trapped watching a 3-month old. But I was taking a break today and decided to try taking some shots off my lanai.

There you have it guys. That’s the view you’d get paying close to a half-million dollars for a condo unit in Hawaii. Gorgeous huh? Yeah it’s a concrete jungle over here in the heart of Honolulu but believe me, this view could be a lot worse. At least it’s a good 100ft between me and anyone potentially staring back at me from their dwelling, I can see good light coming in from my windows, and there’s actually what you might call an “ocean view”

Look….yeah, those little tiny blue gaps between the buildings are pristine views of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Relaxing isn’t it? I used to have a bigger gap of ocean to look at before a developer started building this ginormous residential high-rise over by Kakaako and then STOPPED midway because they ran out of funding!

Summammabeetch, why didn’t they stop BEFORE they blocked my ocean view? Now I’m going to miss seeing the whales come by next season!

Kingston has reached the 3month mark. This is where he’s supposed to magically wake up from a crying ball of non-responsive jelly into a small toddler that’s supposed to sleep through the night, laugh at funny faces, and start getting curious things into his mouth.

Well, he hasn’t quite done those things yet but there’s signs he’s coming around. He’s slept through 1 night so far & the babysitter tells me he actually DID laugh when being tickled the other day. I take him home each evening trying to make him laugh and all I get is the expression above.  “Wot?”

My wife had asked me the other night why I wasn’t taking any pictures. I told her I was a little bored of taking hundreds of shots in the same 2 or 3 places already. “But his expression is different!” Uhm….no.
