Interesting exercise I found today called “Maxing Out Your Triangle”. I liked the neat little triangle charts that helped to communicate the concept in a very simplified fashion. I think it holds a good portion of truth…looking back at all the jobs I’ve had over time, I’ve certainly had at least one out of these 3 motivations for sticking to the job — love, growth, or cash.
I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation where I was given so much cash that I’d be willing to put up with a job I hated. But I certainly know some people who ARE in this situation. I guess to each his own. I guess I’d rather suffer through all this risk and uncertainty in my own career I love, rather then waste my life away doing something I hated.
Certainly I’d love to have all 3. How would my triangle look now with my own business? Not too shabby, it’s not a completely filled triangle yet, but I’ll be working on it:
