We’re going to have a small show tonight over at the KCC campus. A long-time friend from our old band some 20 years ago has a band of his own that’s playing this evening and he’s asked us to jam along with them. We pulled some friends together and we’ll do some quick covers tonight just to get the crowd going. I think the term “crowd” should be defined loosely because it will most likely just be a small group of friends and family huddled around.

Nonetheless it’ll still be fun playing with old friends. I can’t help…looking back I can think of no other aspect of my life that has had a bigger impact on my life than music, specifically being able to perform live music. If there was a moment that might have single-handedly transformed a direction in my life, my first day picking up my bass and struggling to learn a Megadeth riff one fateful evening in high school was it.

It’s not hard for me to tie in how I might not have met some of the good friends I have, might not be working in the design business I’m in, might not be wearing the clothes I wear, might not have the confidence to teach, or even might not have met my wife! I think if there really was time travel and someone went back in some sick experiment and prevented my school librarian from loaning me $200 of her own money for me to buy my first instrument, my life would be totally different today.

I can only hope that my child is exposed to these same passions that might shape his life in positive ways!
