Photography celebrity Chase Jarvis offered a great artcile “10 things every creative person must learn” today which I though was spot-on. He did a good job of summarizing lessons I had to struggle to learn myself. If you’re a new photographer or designer, I definitely suggest giving this article some thought and putting it to heart.

If you want to be the best, seek to be around awesome people–be it other artists, assistants, producers, clients, partners, whatever. Shoot high. Shoot for better than yourself.

On a related note, I recently hired a photographer to do personal family shots. I hired the best I could find here locally, Rita Coury, someone who’s quickly turning into a good friend. As it turns out, the photos I’ve seen so far are amazing…part of me feels so jealous that she could achieve so much with what seemed like very little effort. (I’ve taken thousands of shots of Kingston myself without the same impact) But as we took her out to dinner yesterday, she offered me so much good advice on how I might take better photos myself. It goes without saying “seek to be around awesome people…”
