Today I figured I’d just shoot the shit (WAAY off the subject)…you know for a long time I’ve wanted to write a post about celebrities. You know with all the big stars passing away in recent years, I thought about the celebrities that really made a difference to me when I was growing up.  When these folks pass away I’ll genuinely be distraught….you know when Michael Jackson passed away I thought it was sad but not as much as the many folks I saw on TV.

So here’s presenting my own small list of “Celebrities who will make me ball like a child when they pass away”.  Catchy list name eh? Thought if it all myself.

Gene Wilder

Something about Gene Wilder I really liked when I was a kid. Who can forget his original version of Willy Wonka and his Young Frankenstein. I think I can quote some of his stuff line-by-line.  And how would I have thought to call my wife “Abbey Normal” without the help of Gene hmm?

Ozzy Osbourne

Come on, Ozzy…need I explain why I love him so? I think music coming out of the likes of Ozzy and Black Sabbath probably influenced me more than any other music in any other period of my life. Without music like this I may never have picked up an instrument and had some of the most fun and memorable periods of my life. What makes it extra cool is finding out decades later that Ozzy’s just a down-to-earth guy with a good sense of humor and a loves his family. Now the rest of the world likes him too….how odd is that?

Tim Conway

Tim Conway?! Yeah, he’s a bit towards my mom’s generation, but I think I associate Tim Conway with the many evenings I’d sit with mom and dad and laugh our asses off. I don’t know if I can remember the last time I laughed so hard tears would come out. I don’t know if comedy has ever been the same since….SNL sketches come close to this kind of work once in a blue moon.

Flea

I wrote about Flea a while back. No doubt a HUGE influence on me and my own creativity in music. While I haven’t heard much of anything different from him in recent years, I know somewhere in that brain & fingers of his are jaw-dropping bass licks I’d kill to hear. If only the Red Hots will go back to drugs and alcohol so they’ll play party music again.
