I’ve been casually following this design couple Nicky and Cookie for a few years now (via Monster-Munch). I think they’re a fun couple & it’s easy to recognize their talent. Well, apparently I haven’t seen a post from them in a while….because they’re doing a hiking trip ACROSS New Zealand. It’s like a real-life Lord of the Rings trip.
They have a site up to follow their journey over at Nicky & Cookie.com. It’s really kind of cool. I envy the fun trip their having, but at the same time I’m sure their are a lot of leg busting walking along the way that I’m not so envious of.
The site itself is a good example of this pair’s creativity. A side-scrolling site that I’ve always wanted to do but always stopped short because it can be pretty jarring to users having to scroll both horizontally and vertically. I can hear some of my own clients complaining about this because they’re staring at sites on their 15″ 800×600 laptop monitor. However, I liked how they paired this site’s navigation with keyboard assistance…which I think tackled the challenge pretty well.
