I was surprised to stumble across a Boing Boing post about ElfQuest today. I may be dating myself, but I know friends around my age really got into this set of indie comics back in our intermediate school days. I know it wasn’t totally original (I assume the likes of Tolkien heavily influenced these stories), but for me, it was one of my own fantasy art/story influences.
Back before there was games like EverQuest and World of Warcraft made millions of people think about elves and trolls, this comic book series was the THE thing I tell ya! It had cool characters, violence, sexy elf chicks, drama. What more could you ask for?
I used to save up for weeks to pick up their expensive colored graphic novels. And now I find they have the entire series online for FREE?! Wha wha WHAAAT?!
I don’t know if it’s just one of those things where if I re-read this now years later it won’t be as good as I remember it, but if you kinda like the fantasy genre and you’ve never read this before, I’d give it a shot…read the first issue or two and let me know if you get as hooked as I was years ago?
God I could only wish that someone like Peter Jackson could do this series justice in a motion picture.
Yes I know. I totally outgeeked myself today.
