It’s been hard to keep up with things lately…just too much stuff to do.
Had to transition Kingston into school recently. The little guy seems to be doing well in terms of being able to handle by himself there without us. But I’m constantly aware that he’s a time bomb ready to come home one day carrying that germ that’ll make me sick for 2 weeks. My doctor once told me, “It’s only a matter of time…you’ll be getting sick routinely till he’s past 3rd grade”
Fantastic.
I had a little feeling of heartbreak watching him once on the playground and seeing how he was all alone on the playground while the other kids played around. But I’m told that’s natural since he’s new to the experience.
Meanwhile I’ve been busy trying to prep for the 2 classes I’m to teach this Fall. One of the classes is the same Art 112 class I’ve been teaching for 3 years, but the other one is an upper level interface design course that’ll be a new experience for me. I’m almost done with the new site I’m creating for the classes. I figured I’ll finally separate my teaching stuff with my business site here. So many hours worth of time just getting that set up…not getting paid for it either. Keep that in mind the next time you think your teacher is getting paid too much…if you add up all the unpaid hours they use just to prepare for their day, it really just works out to a few dollars of pay per hour. I do it just because it’s fun.
Big news in the tech world is the new release of Mac OS Lion. While I’m eager to check it out just because it’s “new”. It’s always prudent to wait one or two months for this while other people work out the kinks. Already I have a bunch of friends who’ve downloaded the thing and all kinds of problems are turning up. WAIT!
In the meantime, this 19-page review of the changes is pretty great. I might use this review in the interface design course as an example because it’s a good example about how design sometimes conflicts with function.
