I was once a bit of a comic book geek. You know, the type that would wait for the new issues to come out on comic book stands every Tuesday and pick up multiple copies of each issue, “one to read, the other to file away in UV-protected plastic covering” I was convinced this was an investment I could get rich on. Flash forward about 20 years, what I ended up with is 4 giant comic book boxes taking up valuable space in my closets.
I’m no longer holding hope that these things will make me rich. But hopefully they may one day pay for a semester of my son’s college tuition? Maybe at least 1 class? One can hope…
But I digress. I found this neat little “before & after” showing a sample of comic book coloring. It’s a nice job…if you look at the details there are gradients upon gradients of color even within the belt buckles and each of the armor plates. That’s a lot of patient Illustrator work. My favorite part is the glint of orange glow reflecting off Captain America’s shoulders. I may not have thought about such details had I tried to do this myself. (via: Cardboard Monocle)
What’s with Cap’s man-boobs though? Plus with all those armor plates, I can’t imagine Cap sneaking up on any criminals without sounding like a Salvation Army donation bell.

thanks for the shoutout. That was actually colored in Photoshop rather than Illustrator. I wouldn’t have the patience to do it in Illustrator either. It took about 4-5 hours all total to do in Photoshop. you can see more of my work at http://chenzzo.deviantart.com/
Ahhh Photoshop! Niiiiiiiiiiice
