Career Triangle
Interesting exercise I found today called “Maxing Out Your Triangle”. I liked the neat little triangle charts that helped to communicate the concept in a very simplified fashion. I think it holds a good portion of truth…looking back at all the jobs I’ve had over time, I’ve certainly had at least one out of these 3 motivations for sticking to the job — love, growth, or cash. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation where I was given so much cash that I’d be willing to put up with a job I...

I wandered onto a site today with an artist that does some fantastic street art and random sketchwork. I’ve always loved artwork that shows all the nitty gritty pencil marks and sketchwork left over by the artist. (via: Zenvironments) Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Let’s see…what am I thankful for this year? Hmm: I’m thankful my ear hasn’t fallen off and half my face paralyzed due to this recent surgery. I’m thankful this is the final year I have to be embarrassed about our political leader in DC. I hope....

So I was talking online with my brother the other day about art prints for my wall. He sends me a few links to this artist James Jean. He’s got some prints for sale, but what I’d love to have is the one above. I want a HUUUGE one for my office wall!

It’s been a while since I did any personal reflection on my business experience. I’m not sure if you guys know this, but I started this blog just right around the time I decided to start Lowe Studio in the first place over 3 years ago. Kind of a way to document what I’m going through so I can look back. Whodathunk I’d actually keep this up? Well, lo and behold, 3 years now I can look back at post numba one and see how far I’ve come. (You know the cool thing is that I kept every email I ever had with my wife...

Here’s a little but of humor to cheer you all up. I know it did for me. A week back my brother in Australia forwards me a copy of an email transcript made by a friend of his co-worker. Basically he owed money and tried paying with the spider drawing above. I thought it was pretty funny but since it involved personal email I thought it better not to pass on. Today he tells me it’s gone viral and now an Australian newschannel has picked up the incident. So it’s all fair to post! That spider just looks so damn funny to me! ...

Is it a keypad? Or is it jewelry? Perhaps both? Interesting concept taking the emoticon concepts into new areas in both function and form. On this board it acts as a keypad you can use to insert emoticons into your messages. But then you can pull out these round smiley guys and insert them into wearable jewelry. Kinda geeky but I can see this being a fun holiday item for the young teen obsessed with IMing. Cute little smiley characters too… I bet it would get lost so easily though. (via: Bajca)

Sometimes it amazes me how creative some people are. OR I’m often amazed at how they find the time for things like this. Either way, these automaton metal elephants are way cool. (via: BookofJoe)

A client suggested I do a personal class on HDR work on his photography. I think that might be fun. For those that don’t know what HDR is, it stands for “High Dynamic Range” — photography speak for what is essentially taking multiple shots of the same image in different exposures and then combining them into one shot. The result is you get an image that should look closer to what your eyes really saw when you took the photograph (you don’t get skies that look all white and blown out, nor do you get subjects that...

g-speak overview 1828121108 from john underkoffler on Vimeo. OK this is rather cool…a bit of a giant leap in interface design akin to the fancy computers they showed in the movies like Minority Report or Matrix. Who knows, maybe in the near future we’ll be doing all our Photoshop designs using these giant hand gestures. It’ll be like I can work and get Wii-Fit type exercise at the same time! This would do wonders for the adult entertainment industry…but they’d have to figure out one-hand gestures. Imagine the...
