I’m not above flattery – a student said I looked “25” today. hahahah…snorkle….hahaha.
“Automatic A for you!”
Naaaah, I keed. I’m a fair guy. Growing up I think I’ve been on both sides of the fence before. I’m a typical Chinese kid…you know, the ones with the parents that spend their whole life telling you they wanted you to be a doctor or lawyer? (Shhh…my wife says it’s stereotyping but I think it’s so true!) To this day my mom still tells me it’s not too late to be a doctor. So anyway, I’ve been that teacher’s pet kind of thing where I just do everything my teacher says, study hard, blah blah…you know, total Asian-boy suck up.
And THEN, I discovered….hair-band metal & punk music (GASP!) right after high-school and it was over folks. I guess what they say about that “devil music” is true! 1st year college I shaved my head, cut up my jeans, acted like a total jerk. Spent half my classes ditching out and going to arcades. Oh gawd, I think this one English professor hated my guts in class. The devil made me do it all I swear.
So, it’s interesting now being on the other side of the fence. I get to see all these student characters from a different perspective. I guess I’ll just have to watch how I learn to react to them over time.
This brings up some bizarre thought…I wonder if my future little boy will end up following my footsteps. Will he end up being pushed to do something by mom and dad then end up doing something completely unexpected? I’ll unundate him with nothing but hardcore punk all his life and then when he’s a teen he’ll rebel against me and become like a rich Julliard pianist. hmmm.
