Today I have all to myself. It’s a little strange not having any client meetings, no huge deadline, no class to teach, no child or wife at home. I’m a little giddy actually…I can’t remember when I last had a day like this. So I’m just sitting here casually grading projects as I run a movie or two on the boob tube. It’s strange how rare “me times” are once a kid is involved in your life.
Yesterday my wife pulled an unusually long shift at work from 6am – 11pm…so I had Kingston all to myself for the day. I handled fine but the day was entirely dedicated to keeping a 2 year old occupied and fed all day long, which is a full time job. Hats off to all the single parents out there. It’s rough.
Before I know it, Xmas is around the corner and I haven’t done anything Christmas related yet beyond setting up our tree. There are no presents under the tree yet and I haven’t gotten any cards or gifts for anyone at all yet. The cards I can always do after xmas. I might even work to my favor to send out cards to my clients when it’s not crammed in with all the other cards they get during this season. But I’d be a little disappointed in myself if I didn’t at least have something for my wife and child to open on Christmas day. The added challenge for me is that my wife doesn’t quite care as much….she grew up in Hong Kong where Christmas wasn’t really a big thing. So the whole obligation of gift giving and Santa Claus is resting on my shoulders. I want Kingston to grow up having as much fun during this Season as I did growing up. That’s a lot of responsibility I’m adopting isn’t it? I’ll figure it out I suppose.
I still want to make a Xmas wish list for Santa…despite the fact I pretty much got all I wanted this year just having Kingston around. He almost didn’t make his 2nd Christmas can you grasp that? UGH. But I figure since Santa never gives me anything off my Xmas list anyway, just typing it down would be a fun diversion. Maybe I’ll find the chance to do that sometime before Xmas…I should just say “Just give me anything that’s valuable and electronic. Thank you Santa”
