My home office…no my entire home for that matter which once served as my sanctuary, will be chaotic for the next few months as we’re doing a home renovation. Look how beautiful I once had my office.
Now my once glorious desk has been moved down to be used in my office in KCC and our room will be once again converted into a master bedroom so that Kingston can have his own room. Now the room is storage and looks like a typhoon hit it. It’s a whole mess of factors that necessitated a full renovation…everything from 40-year old jalousie windows that have been falling apart to termites that have been slowly eating away at our kitchen.
We first had ideas to find a bigger place for our family, but after spending a few weeks looking around, the timing in the market just wasn’t right. So here we’re left with the idea that we’ll just invest into our own home to make it as good a place as it can be so that we can enjoy it for another good decade.
While the end result will be good….it doesn’t mean I’m a happy camper. I’m the type that likes to keep everything routine at home and there’s nothing routine about the whole renovation process. Everything feels like it’s in upheaval at home and I find it very hard to do serious work at home where my stuff is crunched together with my wife’s stuff. I’m kneeling on the floor as I type this.
In the end I’m hoping it all should look good. I’m not absolutely sure of that by the way…as it turns out, I got a reasonably grasp of what good design looks like in print and on-screen, but when it comes to visualizing design in a 3D space like my own living room I have no clue at all.
Stay tuned. Over the next few months I hope to document the process with some before and after shots of everything. Don’t be shocked if you see giant piles of hair strewn about here and there in my house as I tear it out from stress.
