Everyone around the world is so pessimistic these days. I’m kinda sick of the talk on the news. Sick of the depressing “advice” I get from family emails. I’d rather surround myself with people who just refuse to accept there’s anything wrong and just go on with life.
Yeah, the economy is affecting a lot of people…if I were one of those who just got laid off I might be singing another tune. But WTF, I’ve been without a formal “job” for 4 years now. If I can survive on my own power, I bet there’s a ton of able-bodied smart people out there who can start their own businesses too. I don’t want to jinx this, but business is pretty frakking good so far this year. No sign of recession yet *knock on wood*
Yesterday we packed the kid along with grandparents to go check out the new giant Target store that opened over here in Hawaii. (Yeah, Target…. that’s how desparate Hawaii people are about getting stores from the Mainland over here.) The place was so packed they had cops stationed at all the parking lot entrances turning people away because the lots were full.
When CompUSA had their going-out-of-business sale the past month here, I was told the line in to get stuff was the biggest ever. Yet, most of the sale prices were no cheaper then what you could find elsewhere (some things were still even more expensive then BestBuy or online prices).
Recession besmesssion. People here are still shopping recklessly.
Anyway, got my taxes done last week. Looks like we’ll be getting quite a bit back this year. $7.5k of which comes in the form of a tax credit for buying our house. How’s that work…get into the biggest debt in your life, the government will give you a little back to ease the pain. Only I was just recently told that wasn’t really a “credit” in such that you still have to “pay back” the gov’t $500 a year for the next 15 years. We’ll we’ll take it anyway, it’ll help pay for these 1 gagillion diapers that we’re going through the next 3 years.
i read somewhere that Obama may turn that “tax credit” loan into a real credit that doesn’t have to be repaid, and it might be retroactive. keep a lookout for it.
