I’m REALLY excited about going off on my trip. 7 Days!!!  But who’s counting?

I’m looking forward to seeing family, watching my boy explore a different part of the world (even though he’ll forget most of it), eating great food (getting sick from eating too much of it), and just getting off this rock of an island.

From a design perspective I always look forward to trips out of the country like this because I almost always come back with new ideas. Seeing how graphic design is applied in another part of the world is awe inspiring, especially in a big world city like Hong Kong where both East and West cultures have collided for so many years.

I remember a teacher once in a college graphic design class discussed how difficult it would be for a designer to pick up and start designing from scratch in a new country, because a designer had to understand his/her own market. I can agree with that to a certain degree, but it doesn’t mean I can’t observe stuff going on outside of my box and then bring new ideas back that would push the envelope back home right?

I got my camera with me too…so time to take my newly learned manual shooting skills there and see what kind of shots I come back with. Macau will be a cool experiment because I took shots there when I first picked up a DSLR, and now a few years later I want to see if I can come back with better stuff?

OH this is going to be so fun!
