New tools for Illustrator?

I don’t have any background behind this video, so it might be all bullshit. But if it’s really a preview of what’s to come in an upcoming (non-halfassed) version of Illustrator, it’s pretty cool. Illustrator is just getting easier and easier to use. Which is somewhat of a minor nuisance to me only because I remember having to drag my ass past learning some of the methods of this program that wasn’t quite intuitive. Ya, I know…sound like a grandpa complaining again.

Kingston & Kaianna are growing up fast. It feels incredible (and sometimes frustrating) to see how they’re expressing their independence and attitudes more and more each day.

Small pity party

So my mom’s out doing a Caribbean cruise with her sisters, my dad’s out with some uncles doing a photography tour of Yosemite, my brother’s over in Kauai doing a belated Honeymoon trip. I’m stuck at home…err…typing on my blog and watching TV? It’s hard not to feel a little left out. We had originally tossed about the idea to bring Kingston on that cruise a few months back because it’ll be one of the few remaining chances for him to meet his great-great grandma who’s getting up in years. Unfortunately,...

My birthday wishlist

You’d have to be a total girl not to be inspired by an exotic car once in a while? (Sorry ladies, with the exception of a handful of car-enthusiasts like my sister-in-law, most of you could care less about anything on 4 wheels am I right?) Like the new Lamborghini Aventador here that just screams “pricey”. (Is it just me or is this car looking more and more like a Robotech mech each generation?) Check out the video after the link. It’s totally drool worthy, both video AND car!

Food Photography

Some of the most creative fun I’ve had in recent years is photography…yet at the same time it’s been really frustrating too. I just can’t achieve what photos I can envision in my head. I’ll go ahead and blame my equipment. In the meantime though, I’ll take whatever photog tidbits I can get on how to improve the look of my work. Including this little article about how to take better food photography shots. Who’s never tried to take food shots for your Facebook posts right? (SeriousEats via...

I’m not necessarily blameless when it comes to waste. In fact my wife is much better than I am. She’s always reminding me to turn off that last light, or stuffing down that last grain of rice. I guess nice infographic reminders like these are good to see once in a while?

Opus Eleven Watch

This watch just trips me out. It’s both amazingly beautiful and yet garishly ugly at the same time. But the engineering behind it just amazes me. Apparently at the turn of each hour, the seemingly random placards arranges itself to reveal the number. The sucka looks to be about 5 inches thick from this image hm?  (via Candified)

Adobe CS5.5

A couple weeks ago a student pulled me over and asked me if the rumors he heard from a bookstore clerk was true…that he’d heard that Adobe was coming out with a new version of Creative Suite really soon. I told him “Pffffft, whoever told you that was an idiot”.  No, I didn’t say it quite that harshly, but I did tell him it would be unusual that Adobe would do that given that they typically have a 24 month cycle between versions…and even then, a lot of people bitch about it being too soon between upgrades only to find...
