Type Is Art

Fun little Flash application where you can create your own little typographical art, all the while learning a bit about type. The gallery has some pretty creative designs. (via TypeisArt)

Why you don’t like changes to your design

Posted by on Jan 24, 2011 in Humor, My Business Adventures | 2 comments

Another, oh-so-true comic strip from The Oatmeal, “Why you don’t like changes to your design” This is another trap even I fall into once in a while. I can count maybe 4 or 5 major projects I’ve had in my career so far where I really put everything I had into the work. I loved everything about the projects, I liked working with the client, I loved the result. Extended unpaid time didn’t even matter to me. But in the end, almost each one of them turned into some kind of nightmare at the end. I felt burned, my...

Mr Hipp

Stumbled across this pop-culture illustrator Dan Hipp. Fun stuff…I know one of my best buddies will get a kick out of his superhero work. His work will also serve as good examples of color usage for my art students as well.

Happy Birthday Kingston!

Kingston enjoyed his 2nd birthday today without much fanfare. I’m sure he still doesn’t understand why people were singing a mysterious song to him all day long and why suddenly he gets to open wrapped boxes full of toys today. I think all he cared about was that he got stuff.

To my Art 112 classes today…sorry I’m sick. Spent the last day and night trying not to hurl anything I ate. We had a lot to do in class today which makes it especially painful that I can’t come in, but we’ll do what we can to catch up next week. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Journey across New Zealand

Posted by on Jan 16, 2011 in Photography, Webdesign | 0 comments

I’ve been casually following this design couple Nicky and Cookie for a few years now (via Monster-Munch). I think they’re a fun couple & it’s easy to recognize their talent. Well, apparently I haven’t seen a post from them in a while….because they’re doing a hiking trip ACROSS New Zealand. It’s like a real-life Lord of the Rings trip. They have a site up to follow their journey over at Nicky & Cookie.com. It’s really kind of cool. I envy the fun trip their having, but at the same time...

Best site of 2010?

Posted by on Jan 16, 2011 in Design News, My Business Adventures, Webdesign | 0 comments

Here’s a revisit to one of the sites I really loved last year, The Wilderness Downtown. It was apparently considered the best site of 2010. No shock to me. Just a brilliant collaboration of talent. I only wish I could have been involved with a project like this! The making of the Wilderness Downtown. from B-Reel & B-Reel Films on Vimeo. Here’s a great making-of video…

I like info-graphics. Especially one that makes a whole lot of sense. Should I work for free? Good advice from designer Jessica Hische. Great type work! Check her out!

More iPhone talk? Like another hole in the head…

Posted by on Jan 11, 2011 in Cool Design Tech, My Business Adventures | 0 comments

Here we go again, a lot of iPhone hoopla going around this week with Verizon announcing it’ll carry the Iphones within  the coming month. This news is only of interest to me because my wife had been considering switching us to Verizon because it’s the only carrier that seems to pick up reception at her hospital workplace. Which means I may have to switch carriers someday as well. Unlike those suffering in the Mainland, I haven’t had any problems with my iPhone and carrier. In fact, all Apple-fanboyishness aside, the iPhone...
