Photosketch

So say you wanted a beautiful wedding shot with a perfect sunset, some sailboats sailing past and some lovely birds flying overhead…what do you do?  Hire a pro photographer and wait for it to never happen? Well, according to a group of Chinese developers, you can get this program called Photosketch. With this program, you can sketch out the way you want your image to appear, and then the program will scour the web for images to put together into your photo. Impressive? Yeah I mean I applaud them if they have programmed this software to...

Sorry, for the lack of anything new these past few days. I’ve been kinda just “BLEEEEEEEH” these past few days. Nothing I can quite put my finger on…could be a mix of the stagnant air and humidity in Hawaii lately, could be that Kingston didn’t let us have very good sleep the past couple nights, maybe feeling a little like my wings are clipped after seeing photos of some of my friends visiting Europe and Vegas?  Could be just anything. You know it is sometimes. I promise I’ll cheer back up again. I just...

Killer Boxer

I really dig this Lucha Libre display/portfolio. They’ve even got details in the…err…pubic region. I really want to do stuff like this, but as yet none of my clients have the budget for something this expensive to make. I WILL find the opportunity though…this would be so fun! (via BehanceNetwork)

Hawaii Teacher Standards Board

Yay, the design I did for HTSB close to 2 years ago if finally up. Why take so long?  Well, I’m not going to get into the details but I was working with their chosen developer at the time and he went sour with my client sometime back. All this legal stuff ensued and it got messy. Suffice to say I never got my full pay on this job, but it got to the point where I just wanted to see something up because I think it’s a cute little layout and design. They’re a good client as well, I hate to see them get screwed like that. As it...

A friend sent me an email chain letter about this guy…I thought it was bullshit photoshop work at first until I found out this guy, Liu Bolin in China really does paint people from head-to-toe to camouflage them into the environment. (via DesignBoom)

Traveling Moleskin

One of my favorite bloggers, Nicky over at Monster-Munch got me kinda thinking that I’d like to try a Traveling Moleskin project sometime. It looks like fun. Basically the idea is that you take this Moleskin sketchbook…pick a theme, and then send it to designated people around the world to let them do whatever they want to the pages. Usually people track the progress of the books somehow, and then it eventually lands back in the hands of the original person. I’ve seen these used in gallery exhibitions, but sometimes...

Catch a star

Here’s the King again studying some of his favorite plastic toys. Funny how you can buy him all these expensive doo-hickies but he ends up enjoying playing with boxes, cheapy plastic cups, newspapers and plastic bags the most. (yeah, plastic ziplocks. Not safe I know but the little buggah cries and cries every time we try to pull it away) I like how his lips purse up when he’s intensely studying something. I hope he doesn’t get giant lips like his dad. I guess it works for my wife though so I shouldn’t...

Aperture

So far I’m thrilled with the evening photography classes I’m taking. We’re on our 2nd evening of 5 so far, and already if I never go to another class I think I’ve learned enough value out of the class to make it worth the tuition fee. On our first evening assignment we were forced to stick to the manual setting on our camera, lock the ISO and shutter settings and just use the aperture dials to get an image that was underexposed, overexposed, and umm…just right. We were to pick subjects that displayed any one of...

Brand Bling

Ever feel like you just can’t get enough product branding on your body? Hmm…I’ve never had that problem, but I DO have an addiction to classic Adidas shoes in recent years. (I think it’s my personal homage to old school rap) Anyhoo, if you’re really into brands, perhaps you can buy yourself this piece of branding bling, “The most branded object in the world” Looks like it would put a series crink in your neck wearing it though.

Pricing a Project

Posted by on Sep 24, 2009 in My Business Adventures | 2 comments

I’ll have to spend my entire Friday writing about 4 proposals all day long. Not that I’m complaining, no sirree. Proposals means there’s still business to find out there whether I land them or not, so I’ll gladly sit here all day and pour over the numbers. When it comes to pricing a project, have you ever wondered how a designer might come up with figures for you when you need something done? A friend of mine pointed out a good article, “Pricing a Project” written up by another designer that is pretty close...
