I should be better about doing my Holiday Greeting cards each year.  It’s a small little fun gesture I like to do for my clients & friends and I think when I take the time to hand-write something, it makes a difference & shows some personal commitment. I did it for the 1st year of business but it’s been increasingly delayed each year of business.  Last year I just ended up doing a New Year’s Day card instead. This year I haven’t even started.  Now it’s near the middle of December. I doubt I could whip up...

Storming

If you’ve been trying to reach me here at Lowe Studio today, you probably had a little touble. Sorry about that. A freak storm hit our area today which brought all the electric power and internet service down at my office.  If there are any emergencies, it’s best to call or text my cell phone at 808-781-9529 today. Here I am sitting at a Starbucks trying to get some work done…it’s funny reflecting on how much I’m dependant upon electric power these days… I sat in my office in the near-dark thinking what I...

CS4 thoughts

I’ve had the new Adobe CS4 package for about a week now, which includes the latest versions of Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.  I still haven’t goofed around with all the new features yet. For geeks like me, the experience of getting new software is a bit like those old mail order offers where you can get 12 new CDs at one time?  Then you get it all one day and you don’t know where to start?  It’s a like that. Anyway, so I’m like a kid-in-candy-store trying out the new features here and...

Best CSS Design of 2008

Posted by on Dec 9, 2008 in Webdesign | 0 comments

Here’s a good list of fantastic sites over the past year.  Sites like these focus on web-standards and CSS work, something which I’ve really dedicated the past couple of years trying to master. I’ll probably be a never ending journey.  Nonetheless, some of the sites they’ve collected here are definitely exciting…I think there are some ideas here that will probably inspire some future work of my own.  (via: WebDesignerWall) What I think we need to do more here in Hawaii in particular is to look outside of our own...

Captain America

I was once a bit of a comic book geek.  You know, the type that would wait for the new issues to come out on comic book stands every Tuesday and pick up multiple copies of each issue, “one to read, the other to file away in UV-protected plastic covering”  I was convinced this was an investment I could get rich on.  Flash forward about 20 years, what I ended up with is 4 giant comic book boxes taking up valuable space in my closets. I’m no longer holding hope that these things will make me rich.  But hopefully they may one...

Oh Christmus Treeeeeee….

Yeah I know it’s not the best looking tree and decorations around.  But whatever, it does the job! 4″ Douglas Fir Christmas tree that smells great despite some crookedness on the bottom – $35 New Xmas tree stand to hold tree – $8 Finding hamajang “ghetto” decorations that were all on sale – $35 Celebrating the first Holiday Season in our new condo, with my wife who’s never had a tree her entire life…….. priceless. The falling needles are driving her insane though  *tee...

Teaching experiences

Posted by on Dec 4, 2008 in My Business Adventures | 0 comments

So here I am approaching my last week of teaching my first semester of classes. (Whoa, did I just overload too many prepositions there?  It’s like saying, “I’m your cousin’s best friend’s second uncle…”) After 15 weeks of teaching, I must say I had a lot of fun.  The students were great…you know, they were sometimes half asleep during this morning class, but overall they each had great humor and personality once you broke through their initial shyness.  I don’t think they were used to...

Proposition 8?

Posted by on Dec 4, 2008 in Humor | 2 comments

With all this buzz going on about Proposition 8 in the news lately, I thought this image I stumbled across to be kinda amusing.  It’s like “Fight Club” meets “Dark Knight” meets “Star Wars”. (via: Worth1000) What’s with gay references to Star Wars figures lately anyway?  It’s probably backlash for the terrible writing coming out of George Lucas’s camp lately.  Meesah tink ‘so.

Amazing Business Cards

Posted by on Dec 2, 2008 in Design Finds | 0 comments

I stumbled across another list of neat business card designs. I’m sure some of these cost and arm & a leg to print, but they sure impress! Sometimes people get turned off by cards that don’t fit into a standard wallet, but who’s to say a clothes-pin card would make just enough impact to be left on a client’s table for the novelty of it?  I heard that the folks at Lego use mini-figures of their own employees as business cards. Why can’t I tear my eyes away from this clock? UUUGH I know I’m a bit behind the curve on this one, but my brother just brought this site to my attention. It’s a 24-hour clock that’s interrupted every 5 seconds with a little random dance segment. I can’t tear my eyes away for a billion reasons…I like the videography, the technical aspect of the Flash site (geeky I know), the cheezy campy dancing, and the ever so irritating yet catchy elevator music.  The videos change by the seasons too. I gotta stop...
