Never see Star Wars the same again

This is so wrong…yet kinda funny. What added to the effect was the artist’s title “This cartoon chose not to use the force” (via: The Rut) Then it got me thinking…shit, wouldn’t it be baddass if we got new tech this way?  You get your PC to hump your iPod you end up with a baby Mac?

Teachers

So we had a small get-together today with other New Media Arts faculty and family.  It was fun…you know, just a casual lunch potluck get-together where there’s always way too much food. You know, I was a little intimidated.  Not because these folks weren’t cool. They’ve been SUPER nice to me since I’ve started lecturing and helping out wherever needed. It’s just that…here were people who just really knew their stuff.  For the first time in a while, here I was in a crowd of people who could talk...

Is it art?

Have you ever heard the name Shepard Fairey? I hadn’t.  At least I wasn’t familiar with the name, but I’ve been aware of the some of the work he’s done.  Have you ever seen that “Obey” logo with the Andre the Giant face stencil?  I think I’ve seen them around town, there’s a giant Obey face spraypainted near the gas station on Keeaumoku.  And another one spraypainted at the old theatre over on Waialae at Kaimuki. So anyway, I stumbled across this article where I finally connected the art with...

Flattery gets you everywhere

I’m not above flattery – a student said I looked “25” today.  hahahah…snorkle….hahaha. “Automatic A for you!” Naaaah, I keed. I’m a fair guy.  Growing up I think I’ve been on both sides of the fence before.  I’m a typical Chinese kid…you know, the ones with the parents that spend their whole life telling you they wanted you to be a doctor or lawyer?  (Shhh…my wife says it’s stereotyping but I think it’s so true!)  To this day my mom still tells me...

Cars and Lego

While I was searching around for good material I could use in class to teach Illustrator, I came across this illustration that has all these cool cars from various movies, TV shows, and video games. I don’t recognize them all, but there are more then a few that bring back old memories for me. Excitebike, the Starsky and Hutch car, James Bond’s underwater Lotus, ZZ top’s Coupe, etc. If this was a T-shirt I’d get it right away. And then there’s this really talented Lego builder, Adrian Florea. This stuff is pretty...

Old as heck

Posted by on Sep 1, 2008 in Humor, Personal | 0 comments

Next year I may end up being invited to my…err… 20th high school reunion.  I’m sorry, there’s no other reaction I can say other then the truth, “Fuck, that’s old.” I mean, seriously, TWENTY. Where the hell did that go?  Honestly, in my mind’s eye (frankly the only eye that counts for me) I don’t feel over 25.  I’m in better shape then I was back 20 years ago – I’m stronger at the gym, I can run further, more confidence, etc etc.  I’m just peaking! When I look at...

Leonardo 2008

This is how you paint the Mona Lisa in 80 milliseconds.  All you need are 2 TV geeks, a mile of tubing, 1100 barrels and 1100 paintballs.  Pfffffffft,  easy. Mythbusters create Mona Lisa using Paintballs The last 5 seconds of slo-mo video is the best part. I’m getting warm-fuzzy flashbacks of Doom’s BFG gun watching this thing

My terrible addiction

I know my last posts have been gloomy…hey, I just know how crappy it feels like to have a missing loved one. Anyway, just so we don’t lose sight about the fun things in life, let’s talk cameras for a change. You know I’ve been wanting a new DSLR for like 2 years now. Everytime some excuse comes up & I haven’t gotten it yet. Now this month a whole new slew of new cameras are coming up for the “serious amatuer / semi-pro” market. These are truly droolworthy. The Canon 5D, Mark II, is a bit out of my...

Help find Kimberly

If any of you readers live around the Waikiki area maybe please try passing fliers around or sticking this up on any bulletins in the area? Flier for Kimberly Jacobs I’m told somebody reported seeing her as late as this Sunday on the other side of Waikiki so that’s partially good news.

Losing control

Posted by on Aug 27, 2008 in Rants | 0 comments

Once in a while I feel like I’m losing control… I got all this responsibility, which naturally comes with some success right?  You know, I got this new condo, I got momentum in my business, I got this new teaching thing, I have a beautiful wife and a kid on the way… Alright, I know, “You want all that stuff, you gotta put up with the crap that comes with it Raph”  Yeah yeah, shuttup inner monologue. I just beat myself to death over being something for everybody though – you know, if I don’t keep...
