Allow me the chance to brain dump a little bit on ya folks out there will ya? I’m sure a good deal of you guys out there who might stumble across this stuff I write and say “who the fuck cares”, but this is as much self-therapy for me as it is for your casual consumption. What started out as a new way for me to communicate with friends when I first started working alone 6 years ago has now turned into a situation where I have like thousands of hits a month. Seriously?! I guess that’s how the Net works these days…you got the need to jibber jabber a bit and suddenly the search engines pull in people.

More and more so I have to be careful what I say these days. Which is a fucking shame…but I guess now that I have a wife and child to watch out for, I now have to censor myself a bit more. Still, some of the stuff I still say sometimes will not get me elected for office anytime soon.

A lot of stuff going on in my life lately. I’d say overall I’m in a good place this year. Things are looking up…or at least 1000x better than it did last year. I’m not a believer in astrology, but SOMEthing in the Universe flicked a switch since last year and a lot of things have turned the corner.

  • FINALLY, it looks like we’re able to refinance our house. We bought our place not so long ago when the rate was still hovering around 6%. But because of all these things involving everything from length of ownership to the lowering values of homes around us, we were not able to qualify for all the low rates these past couple years. Looks like we’re soon able to do it. This will be a HUGE break for us in terms of monthly finances. YIPEE!
  • A huge opportunity presented itself at the college I’ve been lecturing at where I may become the chief architect in fixing and updating their main website. It’s an exciting opportunity. The challenge in this case is not so much the technical aspects of managing a website of this scope, but it’s working in a situation where it’s design-by-committee x100. It may be months before I unwrap that web so to speak.
  • Business is still good. Surprisingly good, despite the fact I’ve had virtually NO advertising and no networking over the past few months. Go figure. I can only attribute the momentum of business now that I’m nearing the 6 year mark? I’m now able to hand-select projects I’m interested in a little bit.
  • Looks like I’ll be teaching an upper level “Interface Design” course this coming Fall. A couple of students I’ve taught in past semesters are enrolled in my class. This will be my first time revisiting students I’ve had before. I’m very excited. The class itself will be a challenge — if it were a company, it’d be like I’ll have 15 “employees” doing 15 website development projects all at the same time. I’m told upper-level students are very self-motivated, so we shall see…
  • I’m going to have my best-friends’ daughter in one of my lower level classes. I’ve carried her in my arms when she was a baby and now she’ll be sitting there staring at me wide-eyed in class. It’ll be a bit intimidating and somewhat stressful because I feel a responsibility to her parents that she learn something from me in class. All I know is, I’m going to be kicking her arse to work hard just like any other student! Apples don’t work in me (Unless it comes with a pretty screen and imprinted on sheet metal)
