Another infographic demonstrating how your site’s loading time can affect your bottom line. It’s definitely food for thought.
I mean, reducing a site’s load time has been something web designers have been doing since forever, but I did personally notice that around 2003 – 2006 that agenda seemed to have been temporarily brushed aside a bit when Flash websites were getting fancier and fancier and the upsurgence in broadband allowed us to get away with better looking graphics. Since then, the tide has gradually shifted back towards more responsible development (at least in the circles I hang with. I know there’s still quite a few developers here in town still making big bucks doing the Flash work)
Just yesterday my wife asked me to check out what the hours were for the local Audi dealership just in case we wanted to take a peek at it this weekend. I pulled out my iPad whilst sitting down for the “Amazing Race” finale and ended up seeing a “please load Flash” page turn up. No addresses, no contact information, no hours!? A bit unforgivable for any company wouldn’t you think?
Botton line is this…if you’re getting someone to do your website, your 1st priority should be to have it available and load quickly. All the bells & whistles won’t do you any good if nobody waits around to see it load up or it doesn’t even work at all. (Kissmetrics via Smashingmag)
