I’ve always been somewhat of a stationery geek — when I was a kid I always liked colored pens, mechanical pencils, crayons, etc. Nothing freak-show or anything, I just liked collecting stationery and I used them judiciously to draw all the time back in the day before I discovered video games. Anyway, where I’m going with this, is that I find it fascinating whenever I see artists who could use simple things like wax crayons or colored pencils to do amazing works of art. I somehow find that far superior in skill then what I...

I got this link from a friend on Twitter – Stages of a Photographer. (via: Robert Benson. I think the original came from 4chan) I’m probably stuck somewhere just a little past “Damnit I suck”. I haven’t had enough play money for the “Gearfaggotry” On that note, check out the photographer Robert Benson’s site. Great work…I can only envy some of the lighting techniques he used.

I got a good chuckle out of this web-strip today. If you’re ever wondering how your website will look on the Apple iPad…download their Photoshop layer and apply it to preview your website. Complete with “realistic light reflections on the glass screen…and accurately placed fingerprint smudges” (via The Brads)

When I was up in Hong Kong a couple weeks back I couldn’t help but encounter tons of kiosk stores that sold cell phones and accessories. My wife suggested I get a new iPhone case up there because it was “cheap”. We looked around and there wasn’t anything I spotted there that was any good. But what really held me from getting a case up there was that I was waiting to come back home and order a GeleSkin case featuring some awesome artwork from tons of artists, including Frank Miller (NSFW) for you “300”...
read moreDear Apple and Adobe…
A friend of mine and infrequent commentator to my site here, Philip Hutchison, wrote a “letter to apple and adobe” recently that I thought was well written: I’m a long-time customer and have spent more money on your products than I have on just about any other aspect of my life. I’ve spent more money on your products than I’ve spent on my healthcare, vacations, kitchen appliances, children’s school supplies, or home entertainment system. In return, you’ve increasingly shown a disregard for my needs and concerns, and have acted in...

On the subject about taxes, Gizmodo made mention this morning about this great poster created by an artist named Jess Bachman. It shows a visual record of where all your tax dollars are going with the biggest chunks represented by bigger circles. When I think of taxes I’m reminded of that one scene from Godfather 2 where the Don in the white suit goes around to each shop collecting protection money. This way the Gov’t takes my money the same way but they don’t look half as cool doing it. (Death and Taxes 2010 via...

God it didn’t take long for me to come back down from the high of vacation. I feel like such a grump today. I don’t think it ever helps going on a big trip somewhere right around tax-month. I have to keep that in mind next time. First, you have to rush to do all your taxes earlier before the deadline (because you’ll get fined if you’re late, BUT the gov’t gets to take their full 90 days to refund you hmmmpf!) Secondly when you come back there’s still the quarterly taxes, GE taxes, AND fees to pay for all...

So what’s new since I’ve been gone? Well, apparently the whole world was exposed to the iPad while I was away. Funny that while I was in Hong Kong for the debut of the iPad I took stock of the people around me to see if I’d spot anybody using the iPad anywhere. Nope, not a single person…I saw a lot of people using their Blackberries and quite a few iPhones. I guess that kind of technology takes a while for adoption by the general public. AND I suppose if you had an iPad, waving it around a crowded MTR station might...

Well, today’s the official day I’m “back” in the sense it’s all business as usual again. I think we’re all still jet lagged a bit. Kingston’s wide awake at all kinds of odd hours in the middle of the night which has caused us some sleep problems, but otherwise we’re all well and in good spirits. Nobody got sick, I didn’t throw up from over-eating, and we still retain all our original organs. How was my trip? Thanks for asking…I’m glad you care. I’d say overall it was...

Well I’m here in Hong Kong and still alive and kicking I’m happy to say. Haven’t been able to find the chance to update the blog here as often as I wanted. My only chance to get online is with this spotty free wifi service at my hotel room late at night and by then I’m so tired I feel like crashing. Everything is all good but it’s certainly been a new experience traveling with a toddler. More on that another day…
