Making Tax forms look better?
Tax season has come and gone but unfortunately I’m not done yet. We have an extension out this year because we’re using a new tax agent who has to work out the kinks. Early indication is I have to pay a few grand of taxes this year with is bittersweet. I realize I only have to pay taxes if I have incoming money to begin with, but it still hurts nonetheless to see my hard earned savings get depleted in an instant. It’s no secret I hate doing accounting and taxes. So much so I’m more than willing to pay people for that...

Interesting to find that this site, Gov.UK, is getting so much coverage by sites like Gizmodo and Wired lately. Why? Well, it was named “2013 Design of the Year” by the London Design Museum not because of any bells and whistles. In fact, it has very little in the way of graphics or flash. What it is does somewhat effectively is present a LOT of information clearly. I do like it. It’s especially relevant to me professionally lately because I’ve been wading through this incredibly difficult project organizing a college...

I think it’s only a matter of a week or two before Percival is kicked out of the branch. We spotted mom and dad on the branch with him yesterday appearing like they where encouraging him to flap his wings.

We took the little one to his first visit to the Bishop Museum today. Well, at least his first visit since he’s old enough to really appreciate anything he saw there. We thought it was a good time since he’s shown some early interest in learning about the solar system and all the planets. The museum was supposed to have overhauled their planetarium last year. I thought it was great…after what might have been more than a decade now since I’ve really explored the museum I thought some of the science exhibits were quite...

Percival is getting bigger and stronger. Yes, I named him that given that everybody else on our campus seems perfectly content calling him “Baby Bird” I think it may only be a matter of a couple weeks before all that fuzzy fur falls off and he’s taking off on his own life journey.

We’re going to have a small show tonight over at the KCC campus. A long-time friend from our old band some 20 years ago has a band of his own that’s playing this evening and he’s asked us to jam along with them. We pulled some friends together and we’ll do some quick covers tonight just to get the crowd going. I think the term “crowd” should be defined loosely because it will most likely just be a small group of friends and family huddled around. Nonetheless it’ll still be fun playing with old...

Not really news if 25 million folks have already seen it, but it still bears a bookmark for what I think is a creatively done stop-motion video. Loved the parts where they’re practically sliding off the bed… [youtube id=2_HXUhShhmY]

It has been raining cats & dogs this past weekend. We had to cancel our plans to take the boy out to the North Shore. What did we end up doing shelled up on our own little condo? Why…pull out the Halloween costume and play pretend Hero what else?

We just started Kingston on his 2nd of many many beginner swimming lessons over at the YMCA. He isn’t doing half bad…there is typically some initial reluctance, but after about half way into the lessons he usually gets the hang of it. Funny how my child isn’t the type to cry when he panics…his reaction turns to being bossy and angry. He ends up telling the coach “NO I won’t do that!” /sigh

I captured these native Hawaiian seabirds outside my office the other day. I’ve been watching the little baby for the past couple weeks sitting on that branch. Apparently these Mana-o-ku, or white fairy terns return every year to this same branch to nest. “Nest” is a generous term because as far as I can tell there’s no nest up there of any kind. They just simply sit up there on that branch. Once or twice a day I’ve seen the mama bird go sea-bound to catch fish, leaving the baby bird sitting up there on the...
