Fireworks
This past 4th of July we decided to take Kingston out for his first really good unobstructed look at the fireworks festivities at Ala Moana Beach park. My wife and I haven’t been to this event since the year we got married…exactly 2 days before our wedding day (makes it easy to remember). I recall it was a bitch to find parking, there was tons of people, the show started late, and it was hard to leave at the end. So we really didn’t foresee taking a screaming toddler to watch this anytime soon. This year my wife said we...

I took a class in logics yeeeears ago in college that I found fascinating. It told me how we all made illogical assumptions in making conclusions each and every day. I probably still do today. This being an election season, we see a lot of conclusions about our political figures that simply aren’t logical. I found this infographic to be quite interesting. Not sure how much of these are accurate, but there’s at least a good handful of them I remember from my old class. Next time someone argues something with me I’m going to...

I’ve been a long time fan of The Oatmeal. I’ve even posted funny articles from this site before (here and here). Well, apparently artist Matthew Inman ran into some copyright infringement issues where another site was stealing his work. Turns into this big legal fight with some lawyer and ends up with Matt generating over $220k in charity money. But before he donates the money, he draws this cash from the bank only to take a series of hilarious photos he intends to send to the lawyers. It’s definitely worth a...

If you’ve been to my site before…welcome back. I hope you like the new look of the site. I know I was certainly getting bored of the old site, but I’ve simply been too busy to do anything with it. Hopefully this new site will help be manage my content a bit better. As you can see, there’s more of an emphasis on my portfolio work, yet retains some of the blog functionality I wanted to maintain. Despite my best intentions, my blog isn’t always on-topic, so I didn’t want to emphasize it as much as I used to....

I’m in this weird mind space lately. I feel like life is a bit “boring” lately…just working, taking care of the little one, & your normal routine family life (laundry, groceries, driving, etc.). But at the same time, life has actually been quite hectic. I’ve moved offices at work, setting up for some new classes I’ve been teaching, and handling some toddler accidents (and by “accidents” I mean ER scares). Now to top that off, my wife decided that it’s time to renovate the house....

The way websites are designed is changing rapidly. It’s a natural hazard for this type of work unfortunately. I thought to myself recently “I can’t keep up with all of these changes”. But really….has it ever been different? Likely not. I’ve done webdesign since the days of the dial-up modems where even having a background color that was different from grey was considered the coolest thing. I’ve seen techniques where it was once cutting edge, became common, and then died out completely (slicing...

Yeah I haven’t posted a lot lately. It’s been one of those issues where I’ve felt like I can’t post anything unless I have something important to contribute? Is that fair to say these days? Not like my past posts have been all that insightful. I’m the first to admit I’m a lousy writer and I can’t stick to a point. In almost 8 or 9 years of posting to all my blogs and media sources, I’d maybe count only a handful of writings I’m proud of. But…these days there’s so many more...

I spent my birthday just staying home and building this fancy R2-D2 Lego set yesterday. No, it’s not finished yet. Which is fine! I wanted something that would take me a few nights to put together. It’s actually my first lego set in years and years. I forgot how fun it was as a child to build these things. It got me thinking about my boy Kingston and when he’d be able to build his first Lego set of his own. I look forward to that day. I often wonder when Kingston is ready for a lot of other “firsts”. Whenever I...

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone I bought myself a lego set to build for my birthday next week! Which is more pathetic…buying the Lego? Or having to end up buying my own bday gift? I’m going to go with neither, because I’m going to LOVE it. It’s got tons of pieces which should keep me occupied for at least a good few hours while my boy is in school and my wife is at work. While we’re in the subject of lego…this fan based set of minifigs is pretty good. But this other series is even better! Dear God when will...

Kingston suffered a fall at school last week. It didn’t look like anything…he had no bumps, bruises or scrapes, but we had enough concern to take him to ER a couple days later to get an xray. Turns out he had a hairline fracture that might end up having him in a cast for a couple weeks? Boy the things this little guy has been through. I swear my hair will all fall out in a few years at this pace. You know, the one thing about parenting stress isn’t always about the child himself. (King is often oblivious of his own...
