LEGO anonymous

So word is getting around my friend’s circle lately that I’m really feeling a resurgence into building LEGO as my new hobby. I don’t really make it a secret, I’ve been posting pictures in all my social media accounts. So it’s gotten to the point I have friends and family sending me news of LEGO whenever they hear something. Which is fine by me. But I’m afraid I can’t stop. While I don’t quite have a collection as big as others, just in the past couple years I’ve amassed all the major...

Long Distance tips

I have a best friend’s daughter going though some sadness ending a trip to visit her long-distance partner. I feel a little bit of ownership on this situation (1) because after spending 2 years with my now-wife doing a long distance thing, I can claim a little bit of experience on this matter, and (2) I see her almost like a daughter having carried her in my arms when she was just a baby. Now she’s all “growed up”. Because she’s likely too shy to ask, here’s my free advice if she ever needs a way to deal...

Airplane Hanger

Airplane Hanger

The planes on display were great. Lots of stuff layed about in a giant hanger. Kingston just ran about in every direction. He was particularly enamored with a visual-audio diorama of the Battle of Midway. See our complete visit to the Pearl Harbor attractions.

Aviation Museum

The Aviation Museum turned out to be really nice. Big beautiful displays, air con, lots of things to see in every direction. We’re not talking Smithsonian-big, but certainly a nice feast for my 5-year old’s eyes. He’s been into the movie “Planes” lately so it was nice to see him take notice of the details like the propellors and the different ways the wings were angled. More from our trip in my Mighty Mo Gallery.

USS Missouri

USS Missouri

The USS Missouri itself was something I had heard about so often over the years but never had a chance to visit. I knew it was going to be huge. I knew it was likely to be hot (it was). And it had big guns. I don’t think it disappointed. It was certainly cool in the sense the scale of a battleship looking up was awe inspiring. But walking through the inner workings of the ship didn’t have as much personal impact on me as the submarine did. Maybe because the sub felt so cramped and uncomfortable it gave me more empathy on the lives...

Inside USS Bowfin

The inside of the Sub was incredible. Certainly not a place built for comfort. I had to almost crawl through all the doorways and I’m only 6feet. Gadgets and doohickies everywhere.  More of the complete visit in my Mighty Mo Gallery.

The USS Bowfin

The USS Bowfin submarine was always within tossing distance of the Arizona Memorial entrance. I had seen it a half dozen times but never got the chance to visit. It was a neat experience. Walking through it was definitely sobering and awe inspiring because it was so claustrophobic.  More of the complete visit in my Mighty Mo Gallery.

Visiting the Mighty Mo

We decided to take Kingston on his first trip to see some real WWII memorials today. He’s been showing some interest in planes and vehicles lately so we thought he’d get a kick out of the trip. More of the complete visit in my Mighty Mo Gallery.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays!

I really wanted to enjoy this Christmas season. Last year we spent most of our Holiday Season remodeling our kitchen and bathrooms so most of our time was spent living out of boxes. We didn’t even get our tree and lights out last year. I thought, “This year we’ll make up for it” But what happened?  The flu happened. I spent the last 3 weeks coughing my lungs out and occasionally suffering from post codeine stupor. And it hit both grandma and my boy too. So basically our family was pretty much spending most of December...

Robot love

In my wife’s never-ending goal to rid our home of dust in every conceivable fashion, she went ahead and bought us a robot mopper.   Dust be GONE! At the end of the day, it’s turned out to be a pretty neat little product. It crawls its way around our floors and does a job successful enough that my wife is happy. That’s nothing to dismiss either…I’ve been on my hands and knees mopping the floor myself on occasion and it’s NOT good enough. (Images always flash in my mind of the scene in Full Metal Jacket where...
