Unbelievable

It’s been harder to post regularly here on my personal blog. I think it’s a reflection of my life right now where I’m multitasking so much across everything going on in my life, I simply can’t formulate a complete enough thought to post anything useful here. That’s kind of sad isn’t it? I DID find enough time between all the crazy things I’m doing these days to spend time with King of course. This year he really wanted to be amongst the billions of Iron Men for Halloween.  Funny how Iron Man...

Effin Apple

So here we are a couple days past Apple’s current season of upgrade announcements for this year. And as it stands, I’m within the cycle of upgrading just about everything I have. I’m still using an iPhone 4S, 2011 MBP, iPad 2…so really if I wanted to I could justify to myself the need to upgrade each and every one of these devices this Season. And then there’s this trashcan looking MacPro which is just too sexy [youtube id=0ivoPIcBe4k] I know I don’t have to spend anything. None of these physical devices...

Flying away

My wife and child are leaving for an annual trip to visit his grandparents up in Hong Kong this week. I’m not going this year. It’s a bit bummer….I’ll admit, I miss them both already and they haven’t even left yet. I’ve only had both my wife and child leave me on a trip once (well, twice if you count a trip when she was pregnant), and I had a similar feeling then. Part of me loves the idea of revisiting bachelorhood. No questions, “Why aren’t you sleeping yet?” “Are you on still...

Soar like an eagle

[youtube id=G3QrhdfLCO8] I’m operating with a slight migraine this morning. But this little video of an eagle soaring through a French mountain range reminded me (1) that the world is a beautiful place, (2) eagles are cool, (3) I still want a GoPro camera, (4) I wouldn’t trust my GoPro on an eagle, and (5) I need to get out and get some aspirin. YahoooOOOoo!

It’s hard to be interested in graphic design and not have noticed or taken part in discussions about Yahoo’s new logo. Personally I’ve cared very little about Yahoo for a while now and so any news coming from that company only got about a second’s worth of attention from me at first. But then the discussions started amongst friends and I couldn’t help but be pulled into the process. First there’s explanation of the logo from Marissa Mayer herself: I love brands, logos, color, design, and, most of all, Adobe...

A little wiser

A little wiser

A funny thought occurred to me recently how I’ve aged and I think I’ve gotten wiser about certain issues in life. Oddly I feel part of being wiser is the recognition that I don’t know everything. I feel I understand much more about life than I did when I was 20, but at the same time I recognize now that 20 years from now I’ll look back at the ideas I have now and laugh at that. I think it’s reasonable to take stock of some stuff I think I know now that I didn’t know 20 years ago. It’ll at least be...

Emerging from the logos

I haven’t always been into buying prints, but since remodeling my condo earlier this year my wife and I have invested a little time and attention into putting up artwork that we like. We got our photo prints that I’ve taken & giant prints that I’ve paid other people to take for me. Yet at the same time I’ve gotten $12 prints that were in bargain bins around town and I’ve even got a set of Superheroes from Etsy. I ran across this fun print today that is pretty neat…the artist, Yoni Alter, isolated...

Never ceases to amaze

Never ceases to amaze

We had a farewell picnic for a couple of friend who were leaving the islands this past weekend. It was a nice little casual pot luck affair at the park. The highlight of the event for me was the fact I got to bring Kingston along to play with my best friend’s kids who are 3 and 6 years older. What I found really cool was the fact that my child is now old enough to hold long conversations amongst other kids now — quickly becoming yet another person of the world. My once little lump of warm milk gurgling fun is growing...

Drone touring

[vimeo id=”70188581″] My child’s young interest in astronomy has kind of awakened my long-forgotten interest in all things science related. I’ve gotten on this Neil DeGrasse Tyson kick lately bordering on obsession. I agree it’s been an observable change in our society just in my small lifetime how degraded our interest in Science has become. I’m thankful there are people like Dr Tyson and others who are pushing this passion in our young people (and me!) for all things science, physics and space related. I...

Lust Items

Don’t read any further if you can’t stand someone lusting over material things. I recognize in this day and age with all the shit happening all over the world, my desire for material things that serve no other purpose but to give me a day’s worth of gratification is shallow. But hey, it’s ok to WANT something, it doesn’t mean I’m actually going to shell out hard earned dollars to go get it. I’ve wanted a Porsche 911 since I was 5 years old playing with a silver Porsche Pocket Car that I lovingly took...
