Sound of Silence
I dropped my wife off today at the airport to begin her 19-day vacation to see her parents back in Hong Kong. I’m actually a little surprised I’m feeling a little more depressed about it then I thought I would be. It’s a little pathetic, I know. (Suspend your gag reflex a little bit). I’m trying to figure out why. Back when we were dating long-distance, we’d have periods of up to 3 or 4 months apart. And it’s not like I can’t take care of myself….I’ve lived alone for years in my own...

I posted this “Sisters” site before on my old blog. I can’t stop occasionally paying a visit to this Photographer’s blog every once in a while to check out his work. He’s been documenting his 2 daughters for a few years now. It’s fantastic photography work and the subject matter just simply brings a smile doesn’t it? It’s a bit like CuteOverload.com where you just want to reach out and PINCH! Lighting, post-production work…ok, maybe some of that I know a bit and I can learn the rest. ...

What’s this about Palin banning books? Is it true? Beeeaatch. People can’t really be serious about this person being qualified are they? SERIOUSLY?! Come on….seriously? Perhaps if she had some art talent perhaps maybe she might have thought about doing some creative projects with the books instead…. (via: Dark Roasted Blend)

A fellow instructor sent me this great little short-film link this morning, “The Story of a Sign”. Apparently it won the short film category at Cannes 2008, which is no small feat. Check it out, it’s one of those little short flicks that leaves a warm feeling inside and makes you think a little bit. Good way to start out the weekend wouldn’t you say? Think about it too….it all ties into marketing, advertising and graphic design. Often it’s not what you say that matters, but HOW you say it.

I saw this rolling bridge thing (via: Toxel) covered a few years back on that on that Aussie show “Beyond 2000” (Is it still called that today? Shouldn’t they call the show like…Beyond 2020 for instance?) Anyway, I think it’s kind of neat. Practical? Maybe, maybe not, but it’s still cool. That’s one of the things that’s unfortunate about living in a place like Hawaii. We don’t get exposed to wonderful amazements like this at all. We don’t have eco-friendly advanced buildings...

Here’s another good learning site to pick up new feature information about the differences in the new Photoshop CS4 coming soon. Just scanning through I don’t see any changes that are AMAZING yet, but I do see some items here that will be little tiny improvements here and there that only people who use Photoshop all the time will notice – those spring-loaded keystrokes, being able to see your images sharp even at oddball zoom 33% levels, previewing clone stamp, etc. Essentially it’s not a reinvented wheel. ...

Really quick news, today they’ve released news about the new Adobe Creative Suite CS4 products that are coming out. Yeah that means spending more money unfortunately. BOO! But having gone through an uku-gagillion upgrades of Adobe for years now, I can generally say that upgrades to these products are usually pretty well done. There’s usually a few good solid improvements that justifies the cost of stepping up…enough so that you never feel like you got ripped. YAY! First head over to the Adobe site, they have some mention...

I’m still trying to mash together a logo idea for my band, “Miss Buddha”. It’s a punk band so I know I want something a bit loose and freeform. But it’s just such a bizarre screwed up band-name I’m definitely stumped for inspiration right now. I know the band doesn’t want the too-obvious symbolism of a female buddha or anything like that – it’s just bad karma eh? I’m almost tempted to just hand-scribble stuff on a page and that’ll be the end of it. Hey look at early Sex...

Here it is…proof positive that my lil’ guy coming soon is ready to rock. He’s got the rock devil-horn sign ready to go. I told my wife recently I’m gonna push all these rock instruments around him early to see if he picks any of them up. Maybe he’ll become a rock prodigy? I went to see my first ultrasound with my wife yesterday. It was certainly cool where you can see the little one moving around and you can count all the fingers and toes. It’s a funny feeling at this point in time when you get ready to...

When you run your own business, there’s a lot more to consider beyond just the skills and services that you offer. Not only did I have to pick up all the crappy parts about business (i.e., doing the taxes, the record keeping, the billing, etc.), I also had to refine my own skills at doing things like speaking, public relations, marketing, sales, etc. Obviously if I don’t make a sale. I have no projects to work on right? No worky = no money = wife give stink look. (I make her sound like such the slave driver huh? Well,...
