Carlos Ortega Elizalde

Beautiful graphic work from Mexican artist Carlos Ortega Elizalde. It makes me wax nostalgic for some of those old colored ElfQuest graphic novels – just amped up to whole new level. (via PSDtuts+)

Let’s get it on

Let’s get it on

It’s been a bit slow on the news lately. After coming back from Disney a month ago I guess “real life” can’t really live up to castles, sugary treats and thrill rides. My Summer has been spent staring at empty school campus parking lots. During this part of the year it’s dead slow as all the faculty are off on vacation. All my own colleagues and bosses are typically gone most of the days too so there’s many days where there’s nobody to talk to either!  As I walked towards my office this morning I...

Can you read to the end?

The longer I’ve been in this business doing web-design, the less it seems like it’s about design and the more it’s a concern about it producing results and being effective. It’s a hard sell. Most clients who approach me for the first time have all their heart set on getting a visual revamp of their website…the idea that we may need to consider revamping content as well doesn’t even come to mind. I’ve been spending months here at the college just doing nothing but building a site map and re-writing...

Long Boards

Long Boards

I’m really tempted to get one of these DTWO longboards, if only for the fact that I think they’re gorgeous to look at. I seriously haven’t been on anything with skate wheels (do they even call them that anymore) in close to 3 decades but these really look good to me. Heck if I can’t skate them maybe they’ll look good on my wall somewhere? These are a far cry from the homemade board my dad made for me back in the day. For all his best intentions, he crafted me a death board. The deck itself was fine…I think...

Bus Stop Prank

Bus Stop Prank

[youtube id=BRAM8MpqIeA] A photoshop artist, a bus stop, hidden cameras and a fake poster screen. Sounds like a bad joke doesn’t it? Well this funny little candid camera prank pulled off by Adobe was pretty fun to watch. I think the only thing I wish they could have pulled off was a way to capture the photo without sticking a giant DLSR out of the van window. But other than that, this seemed really fun (via Gizmodo)

Illustrated movie cars

Illustrated movie cars

Funny coincidence just after posting something about all the nostalgic TV cars I wanted, I stumble across this little graphic gem by artist, Scott Park, that illustrates all the cars I mentioned, PLUS a bunch of them I forgot about too!  Let me add the Grease Lightning hotrod, and the Submarine Lotus to the mix. I actually had the Submarine Lotus toy car once but was forever disappointed that it never floated the same in my tub bathwater. Anyway, you have to check out more of Scott’s work on tumblr. Real Mach5!

Real Mach5!

[vimeo id=54923066] I don’t know which part of this video I like more…watching a photographer demonstrate how he got some of his cool shots (which I’m totally envious about), or the actual Mach5 racer itself (which I’m totally envious about). Let’s say I’ll add this car to my list of TV inspired cars I’ve always wanted next to the original Batmobile, the Scooby Van (there’s actually a really good one that parks around my neighborhood), the Ferris Bueller Ferrari GT (oooh yeah!), the Starsky and...

Disneyland with a 4 year old

Disneyland with a 4 year old

I’m sure there are enough Disneyland advice tips out there, but before I made this last visit to the happiest place on Earth I had difficulty finding specific information about traveling there with my 4 year old. I had so many questions — made even harder by the fact I hadn’t been back to the park in 20 years. Last time I was there, there was NO California Adventure Park, no such thing as Fast Passes, half the rides didn’t exist. So deciding to bring my child on his first visit there was met with some concern that he...

We’re going to Disney

We’re going to Disney

This weekend we set off for Disneyland. It will be my first visit in 20 years and Kingston’s first visit in his entire life. I don’t know who will be more excited. I think it I am more excited than he is at this point….his concept of Disney is just a vague understanding that he’s going somewhere that will involve a long plane ride and some kind of goofy looking mouse. Aside from the little Disney intro graphics he sees at the start of his favorite Pixar movies, he has no understanding about what he’s going to see...

Sea Life Park

Sea Life Park

I acted as a parent chaperone for Kingston last week to Sea Life Park. It was literally last minute, my wife was originally signed up to go on this field trip with his pre-school class but on the day of she decided she was too sick to go. I was still feeling under-the-weather, but if she didn’t go, I thought “So who else is going to watch the kids if the class is short of adults?”  So I went… It was as crazy as I expected. Imagine a school bus full of screaming 4 year olds. Imagine being a little sick the whole time....
